Conclusions 1. During the past 100 years many earth dams with CRCWs have been constructed, especially in the USA. 2. The design of dams with CRCWs is constantly being improved, and their height has reached 70–80 m, which is not the limit. 3. Under conditions of a cold climate with a short, rainy summer a dam with a CRCW is simpler with respect to construction conditions and most reliable with respect to operating conditions. 4. In the case of making the core wall hollow under conditions of a cold climate, favorable conditions are created for constructing a frozen-ground curtain in its foundation, which will permit not removing loose, ice-saturated deposits from the base of the core wall.
