Conclusions 1. Earth dams can be constructed from practically any soils available in the construction region. The existing soil investigation methods and instruments permit a sufficiently accurate determination of the physical and mechanical properties of soils, and the calculation methods being used permit a reliable substantiation of the dam designs being used. 2. Technological methods of constructing dams are constantly being improved. Along with the widely used methods of layer-by-layer construction of dams by means of hydraulicking, placing soil in water, etc., construction by directed blasting is promising. The experience of constructing the Medeo, Baipaza, Akh-Su dams and dam on the Burlykiya River confirms the prospects of this method.
