Numerical Analysis and Study of Nanomaterials for Repair in Distressed Irrigation Structures
In irrigation structures, seepage through the body wall and foundation play a major role for the assessment of failures in the structures. To design any kind of structure for the proper irrigation, the effect due to seepage should be considered widely. Many methods have been suggested for the prediction of seepage. Visualization of seepage route gives more impact than the numerical solution for that particular problem which can be achieved by MATLAB and GUI. Concrete resurfacer, Quick Setting cement, anchoring cement, hydraulic water stop cement, concrete bonding adhesive and concrete acrylic fortifier are some of the materials used to repair the concrete in any mass structure like dams, weirs and barrages. But, in practical, it is very difficult to extract the efficiency utmost from the materials used for repairing. So, Engineers must alter the method of transferring the repair method to the advanced pattern to enhance the behavior of the structure. In this view, nanomaterials for repairing are considered in this study. Nanomaterials are very small particles of material either by themselves or by their manipulation to create new large scale materials. The size of the particles, though, is very important because at the length scale of the nanometer, 10–9 m, the properties of the material actually become changed and enhanced. The precise size at which these changes are manifested varies between materials, but is usually in the order of 100 nm or less.
