Self-assembled Nano-BiFeO3 Chemi-resistive VOC Sensor: A Non-conventional MOS Sensor Highly Selective toward Acetone
The present report is on the development of chemi-resistive-based oxide (e.g. BiFeO3) nanomaterials with highly sensitive and selective detection of acetone. A highest response (R = ∆G/G0) in terms of change in conductance of the material (∆G) with respect to the initial conductance (G0) of 120 is achieved toward acetone at an operating temperature of 325 °C among other five (05) interfering gases (ethanol, methanol, hexanes, toluene and xylene) utilizing self-assembled BiFeO3 nanoparticles synthesized via simple sol–gel protocols. Cross-response values of 02 (RAcetone/REthanol), 2.4 (RAcetone/RMethanol), 12 (RAcetone/RHexanes), 20 (RAcetone/RToluene) and 21 (RAcetone/RXylene) confirms its selective nature toward acetone importantly. A comparatively fast response time of 20 s is associated with the sensor which provides a timely and quick detection of acetone analyte.
