Two-Dimensional Flume Model Experiments of Submerged Floating Tunnels
This chapter explores the practical application of SFT in the field of engineering. The priority is to evaluate the feasibility of various SFT cross-sections. We designed a SFT wave flume experiment system based on the hydraulic physical model, considering a wide range of cross-section shapes and the high cost of large-scale pool experiments. This system facilitated the testing of circular, elliptical and polygonal bi-directional six-lane SFT cross-sections under uniform traffic condition and varying wave scenarios. According to Shu Yiguang’s research, the elliptical sections with an aspect ratio below 0.5 are less prone to vortex-induced vibrations. Therefore, an aspect ratio of 0.4 was selected for the elliptical section discussed in this book.
