Objects as Phenomenological Provocation in the Graphic Ideation-Abstraction Process
The concept of ideation-abstraction in the project, has created a new perspective in the architectural creation process. It is based on phenomenal principles, where the haptic, acoustic, olfactive and taste,… establish an alternative way of “looking”.
Experiments carried out recently, have been based on pictorial, literary and musical provocations and have allowed, through graphic ideation, the establishment of new architectural creation strategies, starting from the drawings generated in the creative process.
The conclusion of these experiments is that the graphic medium developed from external provocations is a great precursor to the ideas that will later be transformed into architectural artifacts, Ideas, that through conceptual manipulation, will become part of the architect’s formal imagery he or she will retrieve and use in his/her design work.
The innovation of the present experiment is the use of a palette of provocations based on quotidian objects: Quotidian objects stir ideational provocations. This work is based on everyday objects, objects that are easily recognisable from our own archive of images and shows, again, that the process of project learning becomes attractive and prolific.
This strategy brings the incorporation of new ideational material, where the tactile becomes the protagonist and generator of sensitive experiences aimed at the creation of architectural artifacts as proto-ideas.
From the object as provocation to the abstract object that becomes the architectural model, we can establish an intimate relationship between the phenomenal and intuitional to the specifics of the architectural form.
