Water Intake Structures for Mountain Rivers
The development of the mountain and submontane areas of the Azerbaijan Republic in the second half of the last century caused active use of the water resources of small mountain rivers. Under present-day conditions, irrigation systems are the main components of the country’s water industry ensuring the growth of economic production. The irrigation system parameters are determined by consumers’ capabilities and natural factors (climate, topography, geology). In addition, they mainly depend on the water content of the rivers used. When designing and reconstructing irrigation systems, the main costs are allocated for hydraulic structures that provide the necessary volume of water of the required quality. The arrangement of the water intake facility elements in each specific case is inextricably linked with the best practices in operating similar water intake structures in similar hydrological conditions of rivers. Having analyzed the existing experience in operating such structures, we developed a more rational design of a water intake facility for mountain rivers.
