Road Pavement Condition as a Determinant of Travelling Comfort
Abstract The paper responds to the problem of road pavement condition as a key factor affecting travelling comfort of passengers moving around a dense transport network. Among the studies conducted under the Green Travelling project, transport behaviour patterns of persons travelling across the area of Silesian Voivodeship were subject to investigation, in the course of which linear accelerations of means of transport were recorded for the travels being made. Measurement data were obtained using mobile devices featuring a dedicated application, AP1, used to record travel parameters, including linear accelerations. After completing examinations, their participants were obliged to fill in a detailed questionnaire where they would describe their impressions related to the travels they had made, all for the sake of defining specific road infrastructure elements of critical condition. The recorded linear acceleration data were comparatively analysed in order to verify their conformity with the descriptions provided by those surveyed.
