A Constitutive Model for Structured Loess Under High Stress Conditions
With the increasing height of buildings constructed in the ground with a thicker fill in the loess area of northwest China, it is urgent to formulate a constitutive model for structured loess, which can reasonably calculate the stress–strain characteristics of structured loess under high stress states. In this paper, a new constitutive model that can describe the stress–strain properties of structured loess under high stress states is proposed based on the binary-medium model and homogenization theory, in which the structural parameters reflecting the breakage process of structured loess under low and high stress states are defined. Through triaxial compression test of structured loess at stress levels ranging from low to high confining stress, the parameters of the constitutive model are determined. By comparing the computed and tested results of triaxial compression under different confining stresses, the constitutive model proposed here is proved to be reasonable.
