Longitudinal Displacement Profile
The determination of the convergence of the ground at the moment when the support becomes active is an essential step of the convergence-confinement method. This convergence is determined from the knowledge of the Longitudinal Displacement Profile (LDP) which represents the radial displacement at the tunnel wall as a function of the distance from the face. Knowing this curve makes it possible to optimize the distance and the moment chosen for the installation of the support. The presence of a support may affect the LDP curve. Empirical expressions of the LDP curve are proposed and their accuracy is discussed.
