Calculation of displacements and stresses in anisotropic rocks by the finite element method
Conclusions 1. The finite element method permits calculating stresses and strain in anisotropic media under complex boundary conditions of the investigated region. One of the virtues of the method as applied to the type of problems considered is the possibility of direct calculation of body forces without replacing them by loads applied to the boundary. 2. The algorithm given for calculating elements of the generalized stiffness matrix of an inhomogenous anisotropic medium can be used in solving a wide range of engineering problems, particularly calculations of the interactions of hydraulic structures and rock foundations.
