True Triaxial Tests on Natural Shanghai Clay
Abstract Drained true triaxial tests on undisturbed and remolded Shanghai silty clay were carried out to investigate the influence of intermediate principle stress on the strength and deformation of natural clay. Test results show that not only the shear strength, but also the volume change of Shanghai clay decreases with the increase of Lode angle θ. The shear strength and volume change of the undisturbed samples are larger than those of the remolded ones. In the π plane, the strength of the Shanghai clay basically obeys the SMP (spatial mobilized plane) criterion.
