Behaviour of Rammed Earth Under Tension and Shear
The rammed earth walls experience flexure and in-plane shear stresses in some situations. This chapter deals with the behaviour of rammed earth under flexure and shear. Considering many parameters the shear strength parameters for cement stabilised rammed earth (CSRE) are presented. The flexure strength of CSRE in the two orthogonal directions was evaluated and the results are discussed. The bond strength of reinforcement in the CSRE matrix has been dealt in detail. Details of test results on diagonal tension and triplet shear tests are also discussed.
