Energy storage systems (ESS) are used to store energy for later use. Their use in very tall buildings has started to increase. This chapter will focus only on electrochemical technology and how it is used in very tall buildings. It provides information specific to ESS in general and describes why care should be taken on the use of ESS in very tall buildings as the location and application could have an impact on the life safety of building occupants.
