Remote Monitoring System for Road Constructions
The paper is devoted to research of deformation accumulation processes, temperature fluctuations and moisture rate of road constructions in actual operating conditions. In 2016–2018, a network of remote monitoring observation stations was mounted on highways. They were designed to register automatically with specified frequency permanent deformations, temperature in each road construction layer and changes in the soil moisture of the subgrade. Installed observation stations are also one of the elements for diagnostics of the road in operation, and serve to predict its transport and operational indicators. Observation stations include: measurement probes (Multi-Depth Deflectometer and Multistage Sensor analog) which register in each pavement structural element and in soil working layer of the subgrade values of their temperatures and magnitudes of permanent deformations accumulation; sensors measuring soil moisture of the subgrade; system of data collection and transfer to the server. Installation of measurement probes and moisture sensors is performed during development of road construction layers, which allows to eliminate impact on the road construction and maintain its continuity near measurement devices. Observations are carried out automatically in 24/7 mode, data of permanent deformations accumulation and temperature of the structural layers of the pavement and the soil of the subgrade comes in, as well as data on the soil moisture of the subgrade working layer. An extensive amount of data has been obtained from the moment observation stations were installed giving an opportunity to assess condition and behavior of the road construction at any period of operation from the moment it started.
