From City to Smart City: Key Drivers of Change
This chapter observes the transition from city to the smart city. It examines why was the smart city the principal future that has towered over all others. Specifically, it discusses the amount of “peer pressure” already built into the smart city ecosystem, making cities choose the smart city framework even though a myriad of other city futures may be more fitting for a great number of cities. The chapter also examines existential risks which are influential factors for the reason it is time to think about city futures that go beyond the smart city.
