Behaviour of Geosynthetic Reinforced Unpaved Roads Under Cyclic Loading
Abstract This paper presents, an experimental study on the performance of geosynthetic reinforced unpaved roads under cyclic loading. A series of model-scaled tests have been conducted for varied thickness of the aggregate layer and strength of subgrade soil, with reinforcement at the interface. The reinforcement is found to have reduced the settlement substantially. However, for maximum performance improvement the thickness of the aggregate subbase appears to be equal to about the diameter of the loading area. A comparison with the unreinforced case indicates that for a given settlement, provision of reinforcement can reduce the aggregate thickness almost by about 50 %.
