Copper Oxidation States, Vacancy Ordering and Their Effect on High Temperature Superconductivity
Abstract We briefly review our comprehensive work on high temperature oxides which are isostructural with YBa2Cu307−δ. X-ray and neutron diffraction, together with superconductive and normal state measurements show that the Cu-0 chains present in the structure play an important role in the superconductivity. Whether the oxygen ordering or the presence of copper in a 3+ oxidation state is responsible for the high temperature superconductivity cannot be ascertained at the present time.
