Relationships. Bayes, Friston, Jaynes and Synergetics 2nd Foundation
In this chapter we elucidate relationships between Bayes’ Theorem, Friston’s Free Energy Principle (FEP), Jaynes’ Maximum (Information) Entropy Principle, Synergetics’ 2nd Foundation and the notion of SIRNIA. We do this by means of examples from quantitative approaches to urbanism. The approaches we present assume stationarity, i.e. the external and internal conditions don’t change in the course of time. By means of the above comparisons we shed light on several conceptual and mathematical similarities, as well as differences, between Friston’s FEP, and the theoretical foundations of this study, namely, the general theory of Synergetics and the SIRNIA approach to complexity theories of cities (CTC).
