Abstract The Akaki Dam is located some 26 km southwest of Nicosia and 0.5 km west of Malounta village. The dam is up to 31 m high and has a storage capacity of 2 million m3. The reservoir retained by the dam has a surface area of 18 ha at full storage levels. The paper discusses water management considerations for the area following the construction of the dam.
Résumé Le barrage d’Akaki est situé à environ 26 km de Nicosie, à 0,5 km à l’ouest du village de Malounta. Sa hauteur est de 31 m. Il a une capacité de stockage de 2 millions de m3. La surface de la retenue du barrage est de 18 ha au plus haut niveau. L’article présente les questions de gestion de l’eau, à l’échelle régionale, résultant de la construction de cet ouvrage.
