Cured Epoxy Resins: Measurements in Dilute and Semidilute Solution
Abstract The conformations of two types of amine-cured triglycidyl isocyanurate resins in dilute solution were studied and compared with older measurements of different polyhydroxyethers. The influence of branching on the overall dimensions is scarcely detectable. However, branching shows a very pronounced effect on the intrinsic viscosity. The behaviour of the latter results from the inverse proportionality of the intrinsic viscosity to the segment density. The amine-cured epoxy resins showed no swelling up to molecular weights of 10 000; in the higher molecular weight region the swelling ratios increase continuously up to a factor of 9. Two resins were measured in the semidilute regime. The data obtained lie, as expected, in the region between hard spheres and coils of flexible chains.
