Egress Model Selection
Abstract The rapid increase in computer capability and decrease in associated cost have expanded the use of computer models in all fields of engineering. This has particularly been the case for simulation tools, such as egress models. An engineer performing a life safety analysis on a structure is presented with several alternative tools from which to choose to complete this task. Depending on the type of building and time and budget constraints, the engineer may choose from a variety of techniques, including empirical calculations, manual engineering calculations, and/or computational simulation modeling.
