River Water Quality Modeling
Abstract After discussing some of the basic aspects of the structure of river water quality models, the dynamic equations governing the evolution of the relevant biochemical phenomena are presented. Necessarily, many important river pollution problems as well as the numerical aspects of model integration or parameter estimation are dealt with very briefly, or completely ignored. Emphasis is placed on the data requirment for the calibration of water quality models. A methodology for the design of data gathering campaigns explicitely dedicated to model calibration is presented. Moreover, it is shown how the same methodology can be adapted for the selection of the data that are best suited for model calibration among those collected prior to the model development.
