Reliability Analysis of Frame Structure Through Automatic Generation of Failure Modes
Abstract This paper proposes a new approach to reliability analysis of a frame structure which enables us to evaluate failure probability by automatically identifying stochastically dominant modes of failure for the given geometry of the structure, loading conditions3 statistical properties of the loads and the resistances of the elements etc. The proposed method is in sharp contrast to the conventional methods of structural reliability analysis which estimate the failure probabilities for the prespecified failure modes. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the validity of the proposed method.
