Vane Shear Test
Abstract It describes the vane shear test which is one of the most widely used in situ tests to assess the undrained shear strength of saturated cohesive soils. The test equipment and procedure to carry out the test are described in detail as well as interpretation of the data, and how the results could be used in geotechnical design. Empirical correlations are provided to correct the measured field vane shear strength values and the shortcomings in these methods are highlighted.
