Analysis of Multi-degree-of-Freedom Systems
Abstract The structures, equipment, and piping systems can be idealized as single-degree-of-freedom system (SDOF) or combination of multi-degree-of-freedom systems (MDOF). To evaluate the seismic response of these systems using idealized models, frequencies and mode shapes of the idealized systems need to be evaluated. In this chapter, the importance of frequencies, mode shapes, and procedures for evaluating these quantities is discussed in detail. Procedure to evaluate responses of the structures, equipment, and piping systems subjected to earthquake motion is also discussed.
