Series Production of the First 20 Superconducting Hera Dipole Magnets at ABB
Abstract The HERA accelerator facility at Hamburg, FRG, which is presently under construction will obtain more than 400 superconducting dipole magnets of 9 m length. ABB has completed the preseries of 20 dipole magnets as part of a contract over the production of 215 standard dipoles and the design and production of 8 vertically deflecting dipoles. More than 120 collared coils have been built and are now assembled in their cryostats. The production steps leading from the collared coil to the finished dipole magnet and some of the essential quality assurance procedures are described.
