A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Abstract This is a review of the application of atom-surface scattering theory to the determination of surface phonon spectra throughout the surface Brillouin zone. It focuses on the interpretation of time-of-flight (TOF) experiments using He beams and on the discussion of the He-surface interaction. Earlier reviews covering some of the same subjects include those by Goodman [6.1], Goodman and Wachman [6.2], Engel and Rieder [6.3], Celli [6.4], Barker and Auerbach [6.5], and Bortolani and Levi [6.6], as well as the book edited by Benedek and Valbusa [6.7]. A fuller review of the experiments is given in Chap. 5.
