Fire Hazards
The fire resistance ratings of roofs may be altered when a PV system is introduced to the roofing assembly. The electrically charged components, including the modules and wiring, pose a fire hazard. If not handled properly, electrical charges can be discharged as sparks, which could initiate a fire. The high operating temperatures of the PV systems also could affect the fire growth rate in the event of a fire.
