Abstract This chapter focuses on architectural and functional capabilities that are required for a smart city initiative. An overview of the recommended architecture and implementation technology choices, typical constraints in implementations, terminology, and technology principles are highlighted. These are applicable at various intersections, whether they develop custom solutions or standardized solutions using open, federated platforms and/or commercial platforms.
