Wave Refraction, Diffraction, and Reflection
4.10 Summary The basic material on surface waves covered to this point can generally be applied to the full range of wave periods from the shorter wind generated waves to long period waves such as the astronomical tide. But the applications of this material that were presented have focused on the characteristics and behavior of the wind wave portion of the wide spectrum of waves that occur at sea. Next, we must turn our attention to the longer period fluctuations of coastal water levels, which includes wave phenomena such as the tide and seismically generated tsunamis as well as phenomena such as storm surge which does not primarily involve wave action.
