Abstract The physics of infiltration based on one and two phase-flow approaches are discussed. Quasi-analytical and numerical solutions of infiltration equations are reviewed and illustrated by several examples. An emphasis is put on field infiltration studies including statistical and geostatistical data analysis, stochastic modeling through the scaling theory.
