A review on mechanical behaviour of electrodeposited Ni-composite coatings
Electrodeposited Nickel (Ni) based composite coatings have proved their worth in applications requiring enhanced wear and corrosion resistance properties in substrate materials. The various compositions of materials of different sizes have provided flexibility to produce complex composite coatings with ease and economic viability. A number of parameters effect the quality and adhesion of these coatings to attain desired mechanical properties. In this review article, the authors have highlighted the developments in Ni-based composite coatings using electrodeposition technique and effect of various parameters for obtaining these functionally graded coatings. These include the use of modified electrolytic bath and control of input parameters viz. current density, pH and temperature etc. for electrodeposition, to produce Ni-based coatings for improved anti-wear and anti-corrosion applications. Moreover, the use of different reinforcement materials and their compatibility with nickel as matrix for producing these coatings, have been reviewed and discussed.
