Easily Accessible Technology for Architectural Storytelling: Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, an Experimental Study
The research addresses the question of understanding the architecture by observers and users belonging to a general, non-targeted audience, neither professionals nor experts in the field. Palazzo Ducale, formerly the ancient Comune of Genova, is one of the historic architectural symbols of the city of Genova. Once situated near the ancient medieval walls, it now stands in the heart of the city, at the intersection of major urban developments that, between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, have transformed this building into a focal point in modern urban planning. It now overlooks the main square of Genova, Piazza De Ferrari, and is located at the intersection of the axes of the main roads in the city centre. The building is now a museum hub for international exhibitions that attract thousands of tourists, and it also dedicates many of its spaces to various cultural associations and recreational events for all age groups, as well as educational activities for schools. However, the complex and long history of its architecture and decorations remains largely unknown to the public and often excluded from tourist tours.
