A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The architecture of platforms needs to be defined appropriately. There are implications of keeping the platform open or closed; as well as keeping it shared or proprietary. The building blocks of platform architecture (including platform sponsor, platform provider, and platform users) are introduced, and the design of open, closed, shared, and proprietary platforms is elaborated. A matrix of open–closed vs. shared–proprietary platforms and the resources/capabilities for each of these is also introduced.
