Abstract This paper deals with some examples of activities of the Service d’Etudes des Structures (C.E.B.T.P., France) related to the problem of bridge rehabilitation. This involvement is approached on two levels: a) applied research works carried out in laboratories, and b) investigations performed on some actual bridges, in view of their strengthening by use of external additional prestressing.
