Design Considerations
Abstract In this chapter, readers can find a description of the design process and considerations that architects and engineers need to take when designing an intelligent envelope. The process is based, among others, on climate and location requirements. Passive and active strategies are contrasted. A description is given of the actions to be used when considering the focus on energy analysis, budget, etc. Note is made of the different procedures that have to be taken into account when designing a new or a retrofit building, with the main philosophy being that an intelligent element must be the product of a comprehensive intelligent design process.
