Internal Geometrical Characterization of Stone Masonry Walls Using Electrical Resistivity Tomography
Abstract Recent research using Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) in the built heritage have generated high expectation regarding the determination of qualitative parameters of the structural elements in historic masonry. This paper presents a work focused in the application of ERT on masonry elements with an adapted resistivimeter, commonly used for geotechnical works. The main objective was to determine the viability of using the resistivity equipment in masonry elements through the calibration process and the analysis of the electrical response to obtain its internal geometrical characteristics for a future implementation of the technique in historical buildings. Dipole-dipole configuration was used in its manual form on three masonry elements situated in two different locations of the Aguascalientes city. The results revealed that the adapted resistivity equipment has a high potential to obtain internal geometric data in masonry elements.
