Abstract A review has been made of some of the regular flow applications of the Morison formula, then some new material concerning the force coefficients in irregular wave situations has been presented The regular flow cases considered are fixed circular cylinders subjected to Straight and oblique rectilinear, harmonic flows Orbital flows with the cylinder in the plane of the particle orbit Flows rotating around the cylinder axis Coexisting waves and currents Surface proximity effects The irregular flow cases have been treated as random processes, obtaining spectra and distributions of maxima. Also seastates have been characterized by certain dimensionless numbers, and it has been attempted to correlate the force coefficients to these numbers.
