Dynamic Behavior of Bridge under Full Traffic
Abstract In order to calibrate traffic load models on bridges, the dynamic effects produced by vehicles in vertical and horizontal motion on a bridge must be computed. Several physical phenomena must be taken into account, such as the dynamic behavior of the bridge, and that of the vehicle axles, which are vertically excited by the pavement roughness. Because many situations involving several trucks on a bridge must be handled, a simplified computer program has been developed; the case of simply-supported beams has been studied, under the dynamic load of real traffic. Numerical comparisons of the static and dynamic effects are presented, in different forms: the computation of local extremae gives the value of dynamic impact factors, and the decomposition of the time-history in cycles provides an evaluation of the fatigue damage.
