Evaluation of Seismic Energy Absorption with Various Hysteretic Models by 2D and 3D Nonlinear Time History Analyses
The variations of the seismic energy absorption of the various nonlinear hysteretic models in different structural systems need to great study for proposing adequate energy-based design criteria. In this study, variations of the energy absorption with respect to the structural characteristics are investigated in two different strength levels of structures, in both 2D and 3D states by using different nonlinear hysteretic models, such as Bilinear, Clough, Takeda, Elasto-plastic and Wen models. Various earthquake records with different frequency contents and peak ground acceleration values are used in nonlinear time history analyses. According to the results, the amounts of energy absorption, nonlinear displacement and base shear vary considerably with the hysteretic characteristics of the structure. Also, it can be concluded that the hysteretic characteristics can be considered as criteria to limit the amount of earthquake energy absorption, and consequently the level of general damage to the structures.
