Bending and Torsional Stresses in Assymmetrical Hyperbolic Paraboloids
An approximate method is presented by which bending and torsional stresses in an assymmetrical hyperbolic paraboloid may be readily determined. Itis shown, that those are caused by the presence unbalanced membrane stresses in the edge beams.
Expressions for the shell displacements under uniformly distributed loads are developed. From considerations of compatibility of deformations the perimeter forces causing bending and torsional moments are derived, which makes a complete stress analysis in simple terms possible.
It is shown, however, that torsional moments are relatively small and may therefore be neglected for most shells dealt with in practice.
