Ventilation Rate for Improving Indoor Radon Level
This paper critically reviews ventilation rates for maintaining acceptable indoor radon levels. Eleven site measurements were conducted in habitat rooms of different buildings to investigate the relationships between acceptable indoor radon levels and optimum ventilation rates. The significance of building's age, geographical locations, height of the space and meteorological conditions on the indoor radon level accumulations were also investigated. Relationship between ratio of indoor-to-outdoor radon level and ventilation rate was worked out and a critical ventilation rate was recommended. The guidelines from ASHRAE standards matched with the identified critical ventilation rate. The results could serve as a rule of thumb for ventilation system design improving indoor radon pollution.
