A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Because students come to college with little experience in design, architecture curricula usually center on design instruction. Writing, erroneously conceived of as a vehicle through which thought is communicated once complete, is consequently ignored. In a Design of the Environment course at Penn, the author assisted the instructing professor in structuring a writing intensive course that called for drafts and revisions, multiple written responses to writing, individual conferences, and peer evaluation workshops.
