A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Besides the building of a great number of new dwelling units in cities, many new industrial towns and residential areas have been created. In Peking, for example, the total area of new dwellings is more than twice that of all housing built in old Peking in the past several hundred years. At the same time, much work has been done in repairing and rehabilitation, thus improving the living conditions as well as the appearance of the city. There is also great development in housing in China's vast rural areas where new villages have sprung up one after another.
