Knots in the net: on the redevelopment of railway stations and their surroundings
Ambitious plans for the full-scale redevelopment of railway stations and their surroundings are under way in one city after the other throughout Europe. Although there have been a few success stories, widespread difficulties are also being reported. A theoretical void may be a reason for part of the problems. In contrast to the pace of development, there has been little specific research on the subject. To start filling that gap, this paper contributes some elements of a critical framework for the interpretation of current railway station redevelopment projects. It also points to possible practical implications of the analysis.
