Reclamation and Sediment Control in the Middle Yellow River Valley
An extensive sediment-control program, the first phase of a major reclamation program, is proposed for the Yellow River, 's loess region in China. The project involves the construction of tens of thousands of small earth dams on all major gullies carved out from the region's remote loess plateau so as to retain eroded soil, to reduce river sediment, and to provide a much-needed water resource for regional development. Based on results of pilot studies, the proposed program is shown to be feasible and cost effective, with promise of enormous benifits
