The dynamic response of large bridges against wind effects traditionally relies on fluid load models introducing coefficients which have to be identified with wind tunnel tests. This paper presents a comparative study of pressure fields measured on experimental sectional models and numerical results issued from moving-grid computations of the Navier-Stokes equations for rectangular and trapezoidal sections. The Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) is used in order to explain profile signatures and torsional motion-induced mechanisms. Based upon numerical and experimental results, the pertinence of numerical simulations for the study of bridge aerodynamics is examined.
