Evaluation of noisiness of exposed aggregate cement concrete pavement
Tyre/road noise is the main source of excessive noise from road traffic. This problem applies to both cement and asphalt pavements. This paper presents the results noisiness evaluation of exposed aggregate cement concrete (EACC) in comparison to portland cement concrete (PCC) textured by other methods and SMA asphalt pavement. Studies conducted in Poland, have shown that EACC8 is characterised by a similar noise level to wearing course made of SMA11. Macrotexture plays an important role in the tyre/road noise on EACC. In the case of passenger cars, the optimal solution is a pavement characterised by a macrotexture with the MPD value lower than 0.8 mm, while in the case of multi-axle heavy vehicles the MPD value should close to 1.2 mm. The EACC can be characterised by an acoustic heterogeneity and one of the reasons for this can be mistakes made at the stage of exposing the aggregate.
