Development challenges facing the cities of the Russian Federation in the European context
The Urban Audit Report provides us with a useful context for analysing transformation processes in Russian and other post-Soviet urban systems. At the same time, the ‘experiment’ conducted in the region could be of great value in terms of urban development forecasting. The Report contains blocks on the diagnostics of status and diagnostics of processes, which are particularly interesting at the present stage of development. The latter diagnostics is of profound interest to urban analysts in transition economies. However, its importance for the general public is growing as well. Restructuring future research along the lines of these components could make the whole research program much more explicit and transparent, and the system of indicators more comprehensive.
